Thousands of Kenyans flocked parks in Nairobi over the weekend after  Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) offered free entry to three of its wildlife areas in the city on Sunday as a ‘token of appreciation for their support for wildlife conservation.’

KWS applied the fee entry to the Nairobi National Park, Animal Orphanage and Safari Walk following a directive by Tourism CS Najib Balala.

According to KWS, they hosted 15,000 Kenyans in the three parks on Sunday;  Nairobi National Park ( 3,471), Nairobi Orphanage (7,559),  Nairobi Safari Walk (5,688).

“Following our CS @tunajibu directive on free entry to the Nairobi National Park, Orphanage and Safari Walk, we are happy and honoured to have hosted over 15,000 Kenyans,” KWS announced in a tweet.

On a normal day, KWS charges Sh 800 and 400 hundred for adults and kids respectively, including transport for entry at the National Park while those in private cars the car charges are sh 500, for vehicles with less than six seats, which is not inclusive of the passenger’s entry fees.
