GROUP H

BELGIUM 2-1 ALGERIA

19 year old Divock Okoth Origi made history after becoming the first footballer of Kenyan origin to play in the World Cup when he was introduced as a substitute for Belgium in the 58th minute to replace R. Lukaku in last night’s match against Algeria.

The Belgium striker, who also plays for French League 1 team Lille, never disappointed on the pitch. He made great runs, hustled for the ball and almost scored the first goal for his country. With the introductions of the new subs, Belgium looked dangerous and goals from M. Fellaini and D. Mertens saw them come from behind to beat the Desert Foxes by 2-1.

Origi is the son to former Harambee Stars’ striker, Mike Okoth and nephew to the exceptional Harambee Stars goalkeeper, Arnold Origi.

GOALKEEPERS BAD DAY IN ‘OFFICE’ RUSSIA 1-1 KOREA

After nearly 70mins of football, Russia and Korea appeared to be heading to a scoreless draw. However, thanks to two goal keeping errors (one an absolute horror from the Russian keeper), both teams scored late goals to cap off a rather dull match with an exciting ending. Goals came from Lee Kevin-Ho (68) and A. Kerzhakov (74) to end it 1-1.

UPCOMING FIXTURES TODAY

GROUP A

CAMEROON VS CROATIA – 1am

A must win for both teams if they have to qualifying for the next stage of the tournament. If any of the team loses, they will be out of the World Cup 2014 tournament.

GROUP B

NETHERLANDS VS AUSTRALIA – 7pm

A win for Netherlands will assure them of a spot in the last 16 round. After beating the defending champions Spain in an impressive match last week, Netherlands come in to today’s match full of confidence. Australia on the other end come as the ‘underdog’ of Group B after being beaten by Chile 3-1.

SPAIN VS CHILE – 10pm

A wounded ‘5PA1N’must forget its dismal performance in the first game with Netherlands and get the maximum points today if they are going to defend their crown. The Dutch embarrassed the Spanish giants last week on Friday after thrashing them 5-1, pushing Spain to the bottom of ‘Group B’ after Chile won their game against Australia by 3-1.

SAMBA BOYS DENIED THREE POINT BY ‘SUPER’ OCHAO

GROUP A

BRAZIL 0-0 MEXICO

The Brazil vs Mexico match was quite an entertaining where the two winners of their first match in the group battled it out to gain control of the group. Fortunately or unfortunately, this only ended up in a barren draw mainly thanks to a Man of the Match performance by the Mexican goalkeeper Ochao.

Neymar, Oscar and T. Silva shots were all denied access by the superb goalkeeper who helped his team earn a crucial point to tie with Brazil on top of the table with four points.
