Collins Injera becomes World Sevens try record holder. The Kenyan superstar broke the previous record held by an Argentinian.
Collins Injera became the all-time World Sevens top try scorer on Saturday in the the 2015-16 Sevens World Series in London after scoring his 231st try, which took him past the previous record of 230 set by Argentina’s Santiago Gomez Cora.
His elder brother, Humphrey Kayange, set him up for his 231st try in the dying seconds of Kenya’s 29-12 defeat by France.
Kenya signed off the 2016 HSBC Sevens World Series campaign with a Shield title after beating Russia 31-7 in Twickenham London on Sunday.
Willy Ambaka put Kenya ahead after which Collins Injera added the score for Kenya. Nelson Oyoo made it try number three before Collins Injera scored his 235th series try making him the all-time try scorer in the history of the World Rugby Sevens Series.
Russia pulled one back through Ramil Gaysin but that seemed to only provoke Kenya to score another try through Nelson Oyoo, fading the hopes of any comeback from Russia.
To get to the Shield Cup final, Kenya had outsmarted Brazil 38-5 in the Shield semifinals to qualify for the final of the London 7s Shield but that was after losing narrowly 21-19 to Wales in the Bowl quarter finals early on thus dropping to the Shield Cup.
Former Nakuru RFC head coach Eric Situma has died. Situma passed away early this morning while undergoing treatment at Aga Khan Hospital. He was a great coach who touched many lives especially while running the age grade programs. May his soul Rest In Peace.
