Bakambu joins our very own Kenyan player, Michael Olunga in the Chinese Super League
Cedric Bakambu is set to become Africa’s most expensive footballer of all time following his move to Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan in a deal estimated to reach Ksh. 9 billion ($88 million). The Democratic Republic of Congo player moves from Villareal where he joined in 2015 and netted 46 goals. Bakambu will enjoy wages of Ksh. 43 million a week once the transfer is complete.
Bakambu’s move to China will overtake Liverpool player Mohamed Salah (£34.3m), Sadio Mane (£34m), Manchester United’s Eric Bailly (£30m)and Leicester City player Islam Slimani (£28m) as the most expensive African players of all time.
Bakambu joins our very own Kenyan player, Michael Olunga in the Chinese Super League, who signed for Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng in January 2017 for a transfer fee of Ksh 467 million. Olunga is currently on loan in Spanish side Girona FC.
