IAAF World u18 championship. Kenya is the first sub-Saharan African country to host the youth athletics tournament.
The 10th Edition of the IAAF world U18 Championships kicked off earlier today at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani Stadium.
The event, which is expected to attract over 2000 participants from 159 countries, is a major fete for Kenya making her the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to host the event.
Local Organising Committee (LOC) CEO Mwangi Muthee while speaking during an interview on Citizen TV confirmed that all is set for the IAAF World U18 Championships.
He further said the opening ceremony for the Championships will be 45 minutes of showcasing what Kenya has to offer.
“The event will take place in two sections; in the morning and the afternoon and we shall provide entertainment; we’re working with major artists in the country.”
The IAAF World U18 Championships (formerly named the IAAF World Youth Championships in Athletics up to November 2015) is a global athletics event comprising track and field events for competitors who are 17 or younger (youth). The event is organized by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). It is held biennially. It was first held in 1999.
