Weston Hotel controversy: Ruto and Odinga exchange blows

Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at CORD leader Raila Odinga alias Tinga, over his recent remarks on Weston hotel.

Ruto claims that Raila has no moral authority to question the validity of the hotel since it was built in Lang’ata constituency when Mr Raila Odinga was both the Prime Minister and area MP.

“For the record Weston was not in Ndung’u Report nor the many Orengo cancelled. It was built in Langata over 10yrs when Tinga was area MP& PM,” Ruto tweeted.

The popular Ndung’u report details numerous cases of public land illegally allocated to individuals.

Raila had on Monday asked President Uhuru to have Weston hotel demolished and its owners prosecuted if at all he is committed to the fight against corruption.

He had also called for the suspension of Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru over the fraud scandal at the National Youth Service.

“Demolish all structures erected thereon and initiate the prosecution of the owners of this property,” Mr Odinga had demanded.

RUTO ADMITS TO OWNING A STAKE IN WESTON HOTEL

The controversy surrounding the Weston hotel, which has been linked to DP William Ruto, came to the public limelight early this year when the hotel grabbed a playground belonging to the neighbouring Langata Primary school.

The land on which the hotel is built is also reported to have been grabbed from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

Early this month, in a talk show in Citizen TV, Ruto admitted that he owns shares in the Weston hotel but refuted claims that the land its built on was grabbed.

“We bought the land legally and the documents are there to prove it,” he said, adding that there are people who are just out to tarnish his name.
