The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that TV anchor Jackie Maribe and her fiancée Joseph Irungu “Jowie” be charged with the murder of Monica Kimani.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that TV anchor Jackie Maribe and her fiancée Joseph Irungu “Jowie” be charged with the murder of Monica Kimani.
“I have independently reviewed the evidence so far on record and am satisfied that there exists a prima facie case to warrant criminal prosecution against the following individuals,” DPP Noordin Haji said in a statement.
The DPP further directed that the two be presented the High Court immediately.
Jackie Maribe and Jowie have been in detention for the last one week pending investigations into the brutal murder of 29-year-old Monica Kimani who was murdered in her Kilimani apartment.
Joseph Irungu was the first one to be arrested after details emerged that he was allegedly the last person to be located in Ms Kimani’s apartment the night she was killed.
Jowie also had a gunshot wound on his shoulder and details surrounding the injury were sketchy.
He first told the police that he had been shot by three men who were on a motorcycle outside Maribe’s apartment that hat she allegedly drove him to the hospital for treatment.
However later on after police swiped Maribe’s house; they said that Jowie probably shot himself in his fiancé’s bedroom.
The police also discovered the gun Joe Irungu used at Maribe’s neighbor, identified as Brian Kassaine.
The Citizen TV news anchor Jackie Maribe, while recording her statement at the Kilimani Police Station last week denied ever knowing the slain Monica Kimani, saying she even announced news of her death on a news bulleting.
