Nasa senators have unanimously voted Siaya James Orengo to replace Moses Wetangula as the minority leader.

The 19 senators, who attended Nasa’s parliamentary group voted to oust Wetangula as the minority leader.

Cleopa Malala is set to deputize Orengo.

The stage to oust Wetangula was revealed last week when ODM senators wrote to the speaker of the house, Kenneth Lusaka informing him of their decision to have Orengo replace the Bungoma senator.

The ODM senators had argued that they were the majority in the senate.

Wetangula had reacted to the move to remove him as minority leader, saying the “divorce would be ugly, noisy and messy”.

Lusaka however suspended the decision saying the ODM senators should follow the prescribed channel.

“The removal of Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Senate Minority Leader though valid, stands suspended and will not take effect unless and until a Senator has been elected by the NASA Coalition in the manner provided by Standing Order 20(1) has occurred and the communication to that effect together with the minutes evidencing that decision has been made in writing, to my office by the Senate Minority Whip,” the Speaker said.
