Jimi Wanjigi ‘Death Notice’ – What’s Going On?

The saga of the ‘death notice’ for billionaire businessman and NASA opposition strategist Jimi Wanjigi published in the Daily Nation on Wednesday goes on and gets more mysterious and odder by the minute.

The advertisement in the Daily Nation, headed ‘Death and Funeral Announcement’, stated that a ‘James Richard Wanjagi’ had died on 30th January ‘after a failed armed robbery in Nairobi’s Karen estate’. The name is slightly wrong but the accompanying photo looks very much like Jimi Wanjigi.

Understandably Jimi Richard Wanjigi is alarmed and says he has been “traumatised” by the advertisement which he called a “death promise”.

The Nation Media Group (NMG) have informed the police. There is even said to be CCTV footage of a man who may have possibly placed the advert.

But many questions remain unanswered. Why would anyone do such a thing? Was it sme sort of joke? Was it a real threat? Was it place by a political or business enemy? Didn’t the NMG get provide a receipt for payment for the person placing the advert? And the advert says the funeral cortege will leave the Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday 6 of February, a day before the advert appeared in the Daily Nation.

Here is the James Richard Wanjagi (or is it Wanjigi?) death notice published in the the Daily Nation, in full.
