First black James Bond announced, on audiobook. David Oyelowo will play the titular character in the spy novel’s narration.
It’s now official; we have a new, black, James Bond in town following the announcement that seasoned actor David Oyelowo will be playing James Bond – on an audiobook.
According to the Guardian, the 39 year old Selma star becomes the first black actor to play James bond in a recording of Trigger Mortis, a new Bond novel by Anthony Horowitz commissioned by Fleming’s estate, where he will portray 007 and other characters.
“I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech.” Oyelowo told the Guardian.
Even though it will not be a screen appearance, Oyelowo still passes as the first black actor to portray Bond and joins the long line of actors like Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, who have portrayed Ian Fleming’s legendary secret agent, James Bond.
Rumours have been rife that Idris Elba would make the next James bond .he however in april this year seemed to have given hope on the chances.
“If there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone,” said Idris as quoted then by the Guardian.
