A film based on the gruesome 2014 Mandera bus attack by Al Shabaab militia is set to start screening on January 28.
The short film titled, Watu Wote, was produced in 2016 as the graduation film for Germany’s Hamburg Media School master class program.
Katja Benrath from the media school won in the student narrative category of the Student Oscars, making the film the first Kenyan production to bag an Oscar.
In November 2014, 28 people were killed after Al-Shabaab gunmen intercepted passengers travelling to Nairobi on a bus in Mandera County near the Somali border.
The gunmen reportedly forced the bus off the road and separated Muslim passengers from their Christian counterparts before shooting the latter dead.
Some Muslim ladies are reported to have shared their hijabs with Christians in an effort to disguise them from the terrorists. Some of the Muslims on the bus were also shot while pleading with the gunmen to spare non-Muslim passengers.

There is also a film in production based on the September 2013 terror attack at the Westgate Mall that left at least 67 people dead. The film will star Oscar award-winning actress Hillary Swank, famed for her role in the film Million Dollar Baby
