House Committee rejects Uhuru’s nominee for cabinet post. Kenyatta had nominated Dr. Monica Juma but the committee went another way.
A committee of the National Assembly yesterday rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominee, Monica Juma, for the post of Secretary to the Cabinet.
The committee on Administration and National Security was vetting her for the job of Secretary to the Cabinet.
MPs argued that she was too arrogant to serve the public and their elected leaders.
“While she has the papers and experience, the Interior PS “lacked demonstrable passion to serve the public and their elected leaders”.
“She displayed arrogance and insensitivity to the needs and concerns of the public and their elected leaders,” said the committee in the report tabled by Asman Kamama.
The MPs are allegedly uncompromising since during Juma’s tenure at the Ministry of Interior she had sought to bar them from accessing her office to seek irregular under-the-table favours from her docket.
Juma had during her tenure at the Ministry on Interior, written a letter to parliament, which was produced during her approval sitting on Tuesday, and she had complained about frequent MPs visits to her office “to seek favours”.
Efforts by Majority Leader Aden Duale to lobby his jubilee colleagues to change their minds never bore fruits.
“MPs are complaining that she treated them badly, they seem to have made up their mind but we have pushed the debate to Tuesday, maybe then they would have softened their hearts,” said Duale.
Dr. Monica Juma was nominated by Uhuru to replace Francis Kimemia for the position of Secretary to the Cabinet
On the other hand, Eugene Wamalwa, who was nominated by Uhuru to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, was unanimously approved after a short debate. He was backed by both the Cord and Jubilee legislators.
President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Wamalwa as Cabinet Secretary for the newly created Ministry of Water and Irrigation in April.
