Kibera youths burn projects built under National Youth Service initiative

Kenyans took to social media yesterday under the hashtags #Kibera and #NYSTransformation to condemn residents of Kibera for the uncouth and uncivilized behavior that they demonstrated yesterday after a group of marauding youths set ablaze projects initiated by Devolution CS Ann Waiguru through the National Youth Service (NYS).

The youths, who were demonstrating against Waiguru, torched clinics, toilets and vandalized water tanks and blocked major roads leading to the slums.

The vandalism came a day after a group of other youths took to the streets in a peaceful demonstration in support of Waiguru, after she’s been put on the spotlight over corruption allegations at NYS.

RAILA CALLS FOR WAIGURU’S SUSPENSION

CORD leader Raila Odinga and a section of the civil society has been demanding for a proper investigation on an alleged scandal involving some Sh800 million and all the resources spent in the NYS projects,.

Raila dared president Uhuru to suspend Devolution CS Anne Waiguru’s in order to pave way for investigations into the fraud scandal at the National Youth Service. He also said the Weston Hotel, linked to deputy president William Ruto be demolished and its owners charged in court with corruption.

FRAUDSTERS

In her defence, Waiguru said that she’s actually the one who called for an investigation into the NYS after fraudsters logged into the government electronic system and attempted to steal Sh826M through fraudulent payments.

She however maintained that not a single cent had been lost at the Sh17 billion-funded NYS.

Below are some of the tweets by Kenyans on twitter over the saga;Sangbusienei :#NYSTransformation 2 demos were unnecessary, why demo when a leader is asked to be probed and why destroy useful facilities in retaliation?

Boniface Mwangi: Advice to #Kibera protestors, burn what you bring to a protest. We burn stuff in demo’s,stuff that we bring.

Atemah Gor: The projects being initiated by @NYS_Ke in #Kibera are vital integral ingredient towards human development. #NYSTransformation

Mtendawema :Remember when #Jokisumo looted/burnt supermarkets only to wake up jobless? #Kibera just did that…. No clinic/toilet.

Tim Njiru: We’re back to flying toilets and NGO’s purifying their Money in #Kibera.

SamGichuru: Kenyans suffer from a very special kind of poverty #Kibera
