President Uhuru Kenyatta has come under sharp criticism from a section of leaders and wananchi over his reaction to the historic Supreme Court ruling, which nullified his win in the August elections.

“SOBER UP MR PRESIDENT”- FRANCIS ATWOLI

COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to sober up while addressing the public, adding that he should be “emotional” and “irrational”.

“So I’m appealing to his excellency the president to be little bit to be sober, to sober up because even the way he’s addressing the public he appears not sober. He should be himself, if I was President Uhuru Kenyatta today I would be still thinking what to do, you just don’t hit the road immediately and start politicking, you will make a lot of mistakes in the process. And even those people who voted for you would still change their mind and say, ‘this is not the right person.’ And you still have a large following in Kenya sober up you have your supporters, Raila has his supporters.” Said Atwoli.

Wavinya Ndeti urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to respect the judges and stop calling them names.  Speaking at her secretariat in Athi-river on Saturday, Ms Ndeti said that the court is an independent body and should earn its respect.

“I really feel all the leaders should respect the decision of the court. It is cruelty for President Uhuru Kenyatta to turn against the Supreme Court since He is a beneficiary of it.” She said.

UHURU/RUTO THREATEN SUPREME COURT JUDGES

Uhuru has been openly throwing tantrums over the Supreme Court ruling, calling the judges names and threatening them.

“How can four people overturn the decision of 40 million Kenyans!”Uhuru posed while addressing a crowd at Burma market on Friday.

“Maraga na hao wakora wake (Maraga and his crooks) must know that I am the sitting president. I was president elect but they should now know that they are dealing with a sitting president” Uhuru uttered.

Together with his deputy William Ruto, they have also gone ahead to accuse the supreme court judges of orchestrating a “civilian coup” by going against the “will of the people” and have threatened to “fix” the judiciary once they are re-elected in the fresh polls, which should be held in the next 60 days according to the Constitution.

He said: “We shall revisit this thing. We clearly have a problem. Who even elected you? Were you? We have a problem and we must fix it.” Uhuru said.

LAW SOCIETY OF KENYA CONDEMNS UHURU’S THREATS ON JUDGES
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has also condemned Uhuru for threatening the supreme court judges.

LSK President Isaac Okero in a statement on Saturday noted that while Uhuru is entitled to express his dissatisfaction in the Supreme Court ruling his attacks towards the Judiciary are “inappropriate and unconstitutional”.

“Further statements by President describing the Chief Justice and other judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya as ‘wakora’ (crooks or scoundrels) and ominously declaring that they should wait for him after he is successful in the coming fresh elections are unfortunate and wholly inappropriate remarks from the head of state who under the Constitution is a symbol of national unity, enjoys immunity from criminal and civil proceedings and must promote and enhance the unity of the nation.”  LSK said in the statement.

The Supreme Court on Friday last week declared Uhuru Kenyatta’s election in the August polls “invalid, null and void” on grounds that the elections were not conducted in line with the Constitution and also for irregularities that undermined the credibility of the polls.
