The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has ordered the arrest of the arrest of the headmistress of St. Augustine Preparatory schools Mombasa following the unfortunate incident that saw a six-year-old pupil crushed to death by the school bus on Friday last week.

The Office DPP has ordered the arrest of Ms Serah Kessi through Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Alexander Muteti, and also wants murder charges levelled against her.

The principal is among five other members of staff from the institution who are expected in court today (Monday) to answer to charges of murder.

“We have directed the immediate arrest of the school principal, the bursar, bus driver, the school mechanic and the bus driver’s helper who was on board.We shall move to court tomorrow (Monday),” Mr Muteti said in a statement.

Six-year-old Jeremy Masila was crushed to death on Friday when he fell from the school bus in which he was riding through a hole that was on the bus.

According to eye witness accounts, the boy wanted to pick his bag and water bottle, which had fallen through the opening.

NTSA has impounded the St. Augustine bus which is set to undergo a structural inspection as per the KS372 Standards that took effect from May 22, 2017.

The school will also be charged for knowing that parts of the vehicle were not maintained hence endangering the lives of persons traveling within it contrary to Section 55 (1) of the Traffic Act Read.
