Popular activist Boniface Mwangi has raised Sh 1M in just five days for his campaigns, through his crowdfunding strategy.

Through the hashtag #JoinBonnie1MillionChallenge, Bonnie seeks to change the narrative on how campaigns are done in Kenya by raising money to use in this electioneering period through his supporters, unlike in the traditional campaign trail where politicians are the ones who dish out money to the electorate to woo them to vote in their favour.

A politician funded by the people is accountable to the people. When a politician bribes to get elected, he is accountable to nobody. Please join me in changing how politics is done in Kenya. #JoinBonnie1MillionChallenge” Bonnie posted on his Facebook page.

“Together, we are creating a movement that is changing the narrative of how political mobilization is carried out in Kenya. We are facing and fighting opponents who stand for the status quo and broken system, cartels and strong business interests that don’t care about the needs of the common mwananchi. Our strength lies in standing together,” He said.

He’s targeting to raise Sh 10 million for his campaigns and his supporters can donate as little as just Sh 10. Bonnie says the resources will go to logistics, campaign materials, media and communication and promises to account for every single cent.

The activist is vying for the Starehe parliamentary seat through a new political outfit; Ukweli party and will be facing off fellow youthful aspirants musician Charles Jaguar (Jubilee Party) and businessman Chris Mbogo (ODM).
