The murder trial of five suspects charged with the grievous murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josphat Mwendwa and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri kicked off yesterday with Lawyer Fred Ojiambo saying that the Prosecution would provide “graphic and chilling details” to prove to the court beyond reasonable doubt that Administration Police Officer Frederick Ole Leliman and his co-accused persons were involved in the murder of the deceased persons.

In its opening remarks, The Prosecution informed the court that the murders were plotted by the five on June 22 at a hotel in Mlolongo and it would provide details on how the plan was executed.

The prosecution also said that it would call about 60 witnesses to give evidence.

Part of the evidence the prosecution will be submitting is a tissue paper with a handwritten plea, which is alleged to have been scribbled by the late Willie Kimani while being detained at a container at the Syokimau APs camp before the three were killed and their bodies dumped in a river.

The note, which indicated that the author was in danger, is said to have been handed over to a passerby who had responded to distress calls from the container. Wille Kimani had asked the passerby to call the wife.

Four of the suspects charged with the murder are AP officers Fredrick Leliman, Leonard Mwangi, Stephen Chebulet and Silvia Wanjiku and taxi driver Peter Kamau alias Brown.

Bodies of Advocate Willie Kimani, his client, and their taxi driver were discovered by villagers on Ol Donyo Sabuk River on July 1, 2016. The hands of the victims were tied up with ropes, while some had their fingers chopped off and eyes gouged out, an indication that they were tortured before they were killed.
