Whatsapp introduces video calling feature. Facebook and Whatsapp owner, Mark Zuckerberg announced the development on Facebook.
WhatsApp has launched a video calling feature to its popular service, with a focus in multitasking and security.
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement yesterday in a Facebook update, saying that the company has been working on it for a while to make sure it works even in places without a strong network
“Today we’re bringing video calling to WhatsApp. Voice calling has grown quickly, and video calling has been one of our community’s top requests. We’ve been working on it for a while to make sure it works even in places without a strong network. Enjoy!” Zuckerberg posted on his timeline.
WhatsApp’s video calling will resemble Facebook Messenger’s in terms of its interface and experience, as well as its back-end infrastructure.
Just as with messages and voice calls on Whatsapp, the video calls will be encrypted by default for security purposes, meaning only the two devices involved in the conversation can access the shared data.
Users accessing the new Whatsapp video calling feature app on iOS, Android and Windows will also be able to multitask by using other apps like Instagram while still on video chats.
Whatsapp, which was bought by Facebook in 2014 for $19 billion, has over 1 billion users worldwide.
