Traffic snarl-up caused by Uhuru Kenyatta’s return from the Hague. Fanfare and celebration contributed to the jam.
There was a massive traffic built up today in Nairobi, especially along Jogoo road, following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s arrival back to the country in the morning.
Uhuru, who arrived at 6.30am aboard a Kenya Airways plane, was welcomed by a grand reception at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after attending a status conference at the ICC and was received by a large delegation led by Deputy President William Ruto, who had been the acting president since Monday.
There were also groups of traditional dancers at the airport who entertained the president before his entourage made its way to Harambee House through Outer Ring Road, Jogoo Road, Landhies Road, Haile Sellasie Avenue and Harambee Avenue, where dozens of Kenyans had gathered to welcome him back.
Uhuru’s grand return did not escape the attention of Kenyans on social media and just as they celebrated CORD leader’s Raila Odinga’s return from abroad under the hash tag, #BabaWhileYouWereAway, the has tag #UhuruReturns instantly became a trending topic.
As one ardent Kenya forum reader tweeted;
Lena Porsche: Dear boss… I cannot make it to work till Monday. Jam on jogoo rd is at a stand still. . It will take like 48 hrs to clear the rd. Have a great day and a just weekend #UhuruReturns
