Ebola has killed approximately 4,000 people in three African Nations

Kenyans who have been marooned in the Ebola stricken Liberia, can now sigh in relief following an announcement by The Foreign Affairs Ministry that plans are underway to have them evacuated next week.

Even though the ministry has not stated the actual day when the much awaited evacuation will take place, it has stated that that all the evacuation arrangements have been finalized, adding that the process took long due to “logistical issues as well as necessary precautionary measures that had to be addressed.”

The Kenyans were left stranded in the West African country for the past two months since the national carrier Kenya Airways suspended all their flights to the region in August, following the Ebola outbreak.

“Kenyans constitute the largest bloc of civilian professional expatriates in Liberia, and the ministry has been following on their welfare keenly,” a statement on the Ministry’s twitter handle read.

The ministry has also announced that Kenya has joined other countries in helping affected Western African countries to contain this unprecedented Ebola epidemic.

The Kenya Red Cross has announced that it’s working with the Foreign Ministry to ensure the Kenyans return home

“We are working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as they lead efforts of returning 12 Kenyan Citizens from Liberia,” said Red Cross CEO Abbas Gullet

USAID ANNOUNCES $142 MILLION IN GRANTS TO FIGHT EBOLA

Last week, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Rajiv Shah announced nearly $142 million in humanitarian projects and grants to combat the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, bringing the total U.S. humanitarian assistance for the Ebola crisis to more than $258 million.

“Stopping Ebola in West Africa will require a significant international effort, and the United States urges our global partners to provide additional assistance to help bring the outbreak under control,” said Shah.
