Victor Wanyama becomes the first Kenyan to score in the EPL

Victor Wanyama came on as a substitute and scored his first goal for the English Premier League (EPL) side Southampton yesterday (since his transfer from Scottish Premier League giants Celtic) in their 1-0 win away at Swansea and in doing so became the first Kenyan to score in the EPL.

This is not the first time Wanyama has made the headlines. In November 2012 he became the first Kenyan to score in the UEFA Champions League when he scored for Celtic in their 2-1 win over the mighty Barcelona.

Victor Wanyama’s Wikipedia page says that he is known for his ‘sportsmanship and leadership qualities’. The Kenya Forum salutes him!

Southampton are now second in the EPL but that might change if Manchester City beat Chelsea today in what could be one of the most important matches of the season. What are the odds now on seeing the red and white striped shirts of Southampton on the streets of Nairobi!
