Actors Monologue Challenge: showcasing Kenya’s talent

The sixth edition of the Actors Monologue Challenge (AMC) that took place on Tuesday evening at the Michael Joseph Centre in Westlands proved just how much of talent Kenya indeed has; as 21 gifted actors battled it out on stage leaving the judges and the audience spoilt for choice.

Now in its sixth edition, the Actors Monologue Challenge (AMC) is a live stage performance event that gives Kenyan actors a platform to showcase their skills in front of a live audience and the industry’s professionals.

During the bi-monthly actors showcase, 16 contestants hit the stage to battle it out for the AMC championship in the main challenge, an award that comes with a cash price and a trophy not forgetting the bragging rights while ten other contestants who are mostly fresh talents in the industry get a chance to participate in the ‘Themed Monologue Category’ whose winner(s) from both genders is normally determined by the audience.

SARAH AKINYI NEW ACTORS MONOLOGUE CHALLENGE CHAMPION

Talented actress Sarah Akinyi who had finished second in the fifth edition of the Actors Monologue Challenge, staged a pleasant performance that saw her trade places with the defending champion James Webbo who was totally disappointed for not defending his title.

However, that did not dampen his moods for long as shortly after the event came to a close, he proposed to his girlfriend by pulling a ‘Gerald Langiri move’ as fellow actors have christened it. Langiri set the pace by proposing to his girlfriend of five years during the premiere of the movie, House of Lungula.

Actor Ken Kibet came in 3rd place while the winners of the Themed Monologue Challenge category were Dantez Mwendwa Dexter and Muthoni Gathechar.

The event is organized by Act Right Production which aims to make the Actors Monologue Challenge a premium event for local actors to challenge each other as well as giving a platform to upcoming artists to nurture their skills.

Actor Eddy Kimani, who happens to be the brain child behind the AMC also intimated about an upcoming actors reality show and announced that some of the participants of the 6th edition of the event will feature in the Pilot shoot.
