The Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has today kicked off a countywide, mass voter registration exercise ahead of the 2017 polls.

The 30-day Mass Voter Registration will be the last before the General Election scheduled on August 8, 2017.

IEBC is seeking to register six million new voters during the exercise with an overall target of 22 million voters for the upcoming elections, up from the 14.4 million registered in 2013.

The ongoing voter registration exercise will involve registration of new eligible voters; transfer of voters who are already registered but wish to change their polling stations; and verification of the register for already registered voters.

The commission has also encouraged voters who wish to change their registration details or make transfer requests to do so at the commission’s constituency offices.

According to EBC Chief Executive Officer, Ezra Chiloba, there will be 24,613 registration centres countrywide that will be used during the mass voter registration exercise and an estimated 7,793 Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits will be used.
