The Jubilee party has produced the highest number of candidates seeking to run for elective posts in the August elections.

According to Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) final list of candidates by all political parties as the, Jubilee party has fielded 1,801 candidates, followed by ODM (1,289), Maendeleo Chap Chap (911).

The Jubilee party, which is led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, was formed this year out of the merger of 11 parties. Governor Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap, which was formed recently, appears to have gained popularity quite fast considering that it has fielded more candidates than Wiper(632) and Kanu(695). Chama Cha Mashinani, another relatively young party, has also fetched 372 candidates.

IEBC has cleared a total 16,259 candidates to vie for 1,882 positions in the August general elections with an additional 4,950 running as independent candidates.
