According to a friend of his who spoke to this Kenya Forum correspondent, Kaberere was washing his car in a car wash that he happens to own when he touched a naked wire which electrocuted him.
In an industry that has faced a lot of criticism for leaning towards secular music in order to appeal to the fans, Kaberere stuck to his guns and is famed for being one of the few gospel artists whose songs are worth being termed true gospel.
As one of the pioneers of the urban gospel music Kaberere never once, judging from his first song (Kiburi) to his last (Mwanake), shifted his passion to minister to the world through the message in his songs for the sake of mere entertainment.
The artist broke into the gospel music arena during the days of the famous gospel father’s crew (Keira, Sam and Ken) when he, together with Lena Ochieng aka Mr. Red-Eye, Samuel Githiomi and George Kirangi, teamed up to make up the Zaidi Ya Mziki group. Prior to this, Kaberere, Lena and another singer known as Nuvine were known as Jogg C (People of Christ).
Kaberere is famed for gospel hits such as Nisamehe, Just a Way and his latest Mwanake. He was also the head of logistics at Mo Sound Ltd according to Ulizalinks.
He leaves behind a son and a wife who is expecting their second child and a source has informed the Kenya Forum that the wife is just due in a week’s time. Friends and relatives are meeting at the Parklands Baptist Church from today at 6:00pm.
The Kenya Forum celebrates Kaberere for life well lived and we also send our heartfelt It’s a solemn week for many Christians in Kenya as they come to terms with the sudden death of gospel singer Peter Kaberere, aka Dr. Kabz, who passed away yesterday in an unfortunate circumstances.
