Education CS, Hon. Ezekiel Machogu, on Thursday morning, November 23, 2023, released the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results at KNEC’s New Mitihani House, South C.
A total of 1,406,557 million pupils countrywide sat for the KCPE exams. The 2023 KCPE is the final of its kind and brings to an end the 8-4-4 era, which has been in existence for 39 years.
The 8-4-4 system has been replaced by the Competency-Based curriculum (CBC).
The CS also cited that the heavy rains being experienced in the country affected the delivery of examination materials, necessitating the use of air transport.
Special exams
9,354 students failed to sit for the 2023 KCPE due to various challenges. Machogu said the Ministry of Education will conduct a thorough mapping of those who failed to sit for their exams this year in order to administer a special examination in January 2023

The highest score in the 2023 KCPE is 428 marks, awarded to Michael Warutere from Riara Springs Academy.
