Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has reportedly gone ‘rogue’; going by his numerous gross utterances that have gone viral recently targeting the media.

His recent verbal attacks are targeting journalists, specifically the Nation Media Group (NMG), who he accuses of running “anti-government stories”.

Kuria has in the last couple of days used his Twitter handle to attack journalists, going as far as calling them prostitutes.

NMG in a statement condemned Moses Kuria’s utterances and the blatant attack on its journalists calling it a “shame”. “The vulgar, malicious and toxic statements made by CS Moses Kuria targeting NMG have not only further exposed his character and person, It has also made Kenyans question how suitable he is to be a Cabinet Secretary” the statement by NMG reads in part.

Kuria’s misdemeanor follows an exposé run by the Nation media group around a 6B edible oil scandal. The CS warned government agencies not to dare advertise with the Nation Media Group otherwise they would lose their jobs

The Media Council of Kenya and the Editors Guild have also issued statements condemning Kuria’s utterances saying it’s an onslaught of press freedom terming him as “the most virulent Government inciter since independence”.

Indeed this is not the first time that the Gatundu South MP has been linked with incitement. In 2015, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission called for Moses Kuria’s arrest over incitement charges. Back then, Kuria was said to have called on Gatundu supporters to ‘slash’ anyone who opposed the National Youth Service, which he was championing at the time.

The Media Group’s owners have called on President William Ruto to reign in his Cabinet Secretaries if he still wants Kenyans to take him seriously.

The Senate has summoned CS Moses Kuria to appear on Wednesday at 9.30 am over the raging war with Nation Media.
