Individuals and organizations seeking to have or retain their verified accounts on Twitter will now be expected to pay $1000 per month to enjoy the premium service.

Twitter made the announcement on March 23 saying that it would phase out the legacy blue badge and strip verified accounts of their verification marks starting April 1, making the symbol of authenticity available for purchase.

“A Twitter verified organizations subscription is $1,000/month (plus any applicable tax) and $50/month (plus any applicable tax) for each additional affiliate in the US. Prices may vary by region and are subject to change,” Twitter stated.

Organizations that purchase the subscription will receive a gold checkmark and square avatar if they are a business or non-profit, or a grey checkmark and circular avatar if they are a governmental or multilateral organization.

Verified accounts show users on the social media platform that the profile is credible and authentic—a critical issue for business brands and personalities seeking to keep their customers updated.

How to get the blue checkmark on Twitter

Prior to the recent changes; to obtain a blue badge, applicants would need to apply to be verified and had to meet a criteria based on; “active, notable, and authentic“.

Now with the renewed terms, below is the process of getting the blue checkmark on twitter;

• Only accounts actively subscribed to Twitter Blue are eligible to receive the blue checkmark.
• Our team uses an eligibility criteria on when the checkmark is given to ensure we maintain the integrity of the platform. Your account must meet the following criteria to receive or retain the blue checkmark: 
• Complete: Your account must have a display name and profile photo
  Active use: Your account must be active in the past 30 days to subscribe to Twitter Blue
  Security: Your account must be older than 30 days upon subscription and have a confirmed phone number
  Non-Deceptive:
• Your account must have no recent changes to your profile photo, display name, or username (@handle)
  Your account must have no signs of being misleading or deceptive
  Your account must have no signs of engaging in platform manipulation and spam
