Motorists in Nairobi have a reason to smile this January after City hall effected the reduced parking fees in line with the recently passed county’s Finance Bill.
Parking in the Central Business District (CBD) is now Sh 200 for small cars, down from Sh 300.
According to The County’s Budget Chairman Robert Mbatia the move is aimed at relieving the residents who are already burdened by the fuel levy, adding that the reduced amount will also enhance compliance and increase revenue collection since it’s affordable to all.
Motorists have welcomed the move, which comes at a time when taxpayers are contending with a high cost of living.
Pick-ups will pay Sh 200 per day for picking and offloading while will Canter will be charged Sh 300.
Lorries and Trailers will pay Sh 500 per day and Sh 1000 respectively per day while Motorbikes and Tuk-tuk operators will pay Sh 500 and Sh 1000 per month.
DIGITAL TAXIS TO PAY OPERATIONAL LICENCES
The Nairobi County Finance Bill also prescribes for Taxi-hailing App companies to pay between Sh50, 000 and Sh300, 000 per year as operational license fee depending on the size of their fleets. Uber, Taxify, Little Cab and other companies with a fleet of over 100 vehicles will be required to pay Sh300, 000 per year.
The amount will be paid by the companies and not individual drivers.
