Relief As Woman In Suspected Ebola Case Tests Negative

There has been a sigh of relief after Laboratory tests conducted on a woman in Kericho, who had been quarantined at the Kericho County Referral Hospital admitted in a suspected Ebola case, confirmed that the patient is not suffering from the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The result of the tests carried out by KEMRI laboratories on blood samples from the 36-year-old lady who is currently admitted in the isolation unit at Kericho County Referral Hospital have been confirmed negative for EVD and other Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers,” Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki stated.

The 36-year-old woman had traveled from Busia border to see her husband in Kericho.

Kenya has been on high alert since last week after Ebola cases were reported in neighbouring Uganda.

Uganda’s health ministry announced three cases of Ebola. The three are relatives and had tested positive for the virus after a visit to neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo where more than 2,000 cases of the highly contagious virus have been registered.

CS Kariuki has maintained that there is no cause for alarm and that her ministry is on high alert.
