A woman who wrote an essay published online titled; ‘How to Murder your Husband’, and went ahead to do exactly that has been found guilty by a US jury and sentenced to life.

The jury found that Nancy Crampton Brophy shot her husband of 26 years in 2018 for a $1.5m (£1.2m) life insurance payout.

Before her crime, Crampton Brophy had self-published  “The Wrong Husband” and “The Wrong Lover” novels.

Her late husband, Daniel Brophy, was a chef and teacher at the Oregon Culinary Institute, where his students found him shot dead twice in the kitchen of the Institute in June 2018.

Crampton Brophy has written the essay ; How to Murder your Husband years before the crime. The jury ruled that she had the motive and the means to commit the murder.

“The thing I know about murder is that every one of us has it in him/her when pushed far enough,” she had said in the article.

She listed a number of ways to commit mariticide, from guns and knives to poison and hitmen before writing “it is easier to wish people dead than to actually kill them”.

Crampton-Brophy was indicted and was put on trial for her husband’s murder in April 2022. For motive, prosecutors alleged that Crampton-Brophy was in financial distress and killed her husband for several life insurance policies totalling around $1.2 million as well as sole ownership of the $300,000 house.
