Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) took offense over Balala’s remarks in response to calls for his resignation over the death of 10 Rhinos in Tsavo and even further called for his resignation.
Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) have condemned Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala for what they term as “arrogance” following some utterances he made in response to calls for his resignation over the death of 10 Rhinos in Tsavo.
“Nobody has appointed me, its only Uhuru Kenyatta who appointed me so they can go to hell, I can tell them that. Uhuru is the one who appointed me and he knows that I have the capacity to run the wildlife docket and nobody is going to intimidate me,” Balala said.
KOT took offense over Balala’s remarks and even further called for his resignation.
10 black rhinos died last week following a controversial translocation from Nairobi and Nakuru National Parks to a new sanctuary in Tsavo East.
The death of the 10 engendered rhinos elicited a public uproar and a global outrage from Wildlife conservationists as well especially following revelations by former chairman of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) board Richard Leakey that members of the former KWS board opposed the translocation idea three times for the past three years as they were concerned with lack of adequate vegetation and clean drinking water at the World Wide Fund (WWF) supported sanctuary.
BALALA APOLOGISES OVER “GOT TO HELL” REMARKS
The public backlash has forced the tourism CS to apologise for the utterances, which he blamed on emotions.
“I regret that I did that outburst and I highly apologize. My intention is not to abuse Kenyans, I respect them a lot,” He said, adding that he is answerable to Kenyans.
“I’m answerable to the people of this country through the legislature and the executive. I was responding to two or three individuals that were too nasty on me regarding the issue of the death of 10,” Balala said when he appeared before the Senate over the death of the black rhinos.
