Nelson Havi and his council have been removed from the management of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

The branch Caucus, which announced Havi’s removal on Wednesday, has taken over the LSK management until the body’s next elections.

According to a statement issued by the Branch Causus Havi removal from office has been occasioned by his failure to convene an AGM as directed by High Court Judge Justice Antony Mrima. The judge had on on December 20, 2021, ordered Havi to convene the AGM within 21 days.

“In default thereof and pursuant to the said decision, the Branch Chairs Caucus has with effect from January 11, 2022, taken charge of the role of the council for the remainder of the term,” the caucus said in a statement.

LSK Announces Havi’s Replacement

Linda Kiome, who is also the chair of the caucus in the Mount Kenya region, will take over LSK’s presidency for the remainder of the term until new officials are elected.

Havi had earlier in the day while speaking during an event to admit Advocates to the bar, announced that he would leave office before his term elapses to concentrate on his political ambitions and went ahead to communicate his achievements during his tenure as LSK president.

“Achievements during my tenure as President: bettered the law practice environment and ensured that Advocates are respected; defended The Constitution (dissolution of Parliament and BBI Bill); and protected the independence of the Judiciary whilst holding it accountable,” Havi said.

According to the former LSK boss, “Current challenges in the Justice Sector: threatened destruction and dismemberment of The Constitution of Kenya; manipulation of Public institutions to serve partisan interests; and State capture of the Law Society of Kenya to suppress it from performing its functions.

Lawyer Nelson Havi was elected as  LSK president in 2020, to serve a two-year term from 2020 to 2022.
