Matiang’i outlawed NRM in a gazette notice citing Prevention of Organised Crimes Act 2010.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has declared the opposition’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) as an “organized criminal group”.
Matiang’i outlawed NRM in a gazette notice citing Prevention of Organised Crimes Act 2010.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 22 of the Act, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares National Resistance Movement (NRM) an organised criminal group for the purposes of the Act,” stated the gazette notice dated January 30.
RAILA SWORN IN AS THE PEOPLE’S PRESIDENT
The Government’s move to outlaw NRM came hours after Raila Odinga was ‘sworn-in’ as the ‘people’s president’ at the Uhuru Park grounds on Tuesday.
“I Raila Amolo Odinga in full realisation of the high calling to assume the office of the people’s president of the Republic of Kenya, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the people and the Republic of Kenya; that I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of Kenya, as by law established, and all other laws of the Republic as adopted by the people of Kenya; that I will protect and uphold sovereignty, integrity and dignity of the people of Kenya. So help me God,” he said.
Nasa made good its threat to swear in Raila Odinga as the President of the People’s republic on grounds that he won the August 2017 general elections, which was later nullified by the supreme court on grounds of illegalities.
