Kenyans are known to have some pretty peculiar habits and yesterday this trait played out when acting interior CS Fred Matiang’i declared Friday 1st September a public holiday but only for Muslims, who will be celebrating IDD-UL-ADHA and “how to become a Muslim in a day” became the leading google search item for the better of the day.

NO HOLIDAY FOR YOU CHRISTIANS-MATIANG’I

“…This year the holiday will be celebrated on Friday 1st September 2017.adherenehts of Islam religion will celebrate the day and therefore employers should allow them to be away from work. For non-Muslims this will be a normal working day,” Matiang’i said in a statement.

IDD-UL-ADHA is a Muslim holiday also called the “sacrifice feast” which is celebrated worldwide each year. it is celebrated to honour the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac as an act of obedience to God’s command.

Last year, the late general Joseph Nkaiserry declared IDD-UL-ADHA a public holiday for all Kenyans.

Kenyans on twitter alias KOT, were not amused with Matiangi’s decision to restrict the public holiday to non-Muslims especially considering that it falls on a Friday, which would have prolonged the weekend.

Below are some of the reactions from KOT shared under the trending hashtag # IDD-UL-ADHA

Musyoka David:I wanted to rant on IDD-UL-ADHA not being a public holiday then it hit me that am jobless and every day is a holiday

yanick podschlpp: IDD-UL-ADHA should be a holiday for ALL Kenyans. UNITE THE COUNTRY; DON’T DIVIDE.

Hurry_Daudi: TO AVOID WORKING ON FRIDAY, buy a kanzu today evening, get converted tomorrow and then send your boss a photo during the IDD-UL-ADHA celebrations on Friday.

Akinee: this is so unfair, last year IDD-UL-ADHA was a holiday for everyone, what has changed?

Sitawa: my dad is a Christian and my mum a Muslim, it’s best that CS Matiang’I should know this. I need advice on how to handle the Friday holiday.

Guru Don: I think Matiang’i doesn’t want us to be free or idle on the presidential petition ruling day.it has nothing to do with IDD-UL-ADHA.

Ahmed Mohamed: thank you Fred Matiang’i. I wish it was a holiday for everyone though.IDD-UL-ADHA is a celebration, we would like to celebrate with our non-muslim friends too.
