Most governors are likely to retain their seats in the August elections according to the latest opinion poll by Research firm Infotrack released on Thursday.

Josphat Nanok (Turkana), Okoth Obado (Migori), Hassan Joho (Mombasa) James Ongwae of Kisii and Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) are some of the Governors that will retain their seats.

According to the poll, Nanok (ODM) enjoys a 77.7 per cent popularity against Senator John Munyes of Jubilee’s at 14.3 per cent while Migori Governor Okoth Obado (ODM) has a 71.9 per cent support against his main opponent Ochilo Ayacko’s (Independent) 20.7 per cent.

Joho has a popularity of 63.2 per cent of the votes, followed by Jubilee candidate Suleiman Shahbal, at 15.3 per cent.
The poll gives Mr Lusaka 52.2 per cent popularity rating ahead of Ford-Kenya’s Wycliffe Wangamati (31.9 per cent), ODM’s Alfred Khangati (5.2 per cent) and Amani National Congress’s Stephen Mutoro (0.1 per cent).

In Meru County, Governor Peter Munya is likely to retain his seat with 42 per cent votes against Senator Kiraitu Murungi’s 40.7 per cent while in Embu County, Mr Wambora (Jubilee) is leading by 48.4 per cent against Senator Lenny Kivuti (Maendeleo Chap Chap) at 26.2 per cent.

Interestingly, Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka who changed political camps and joined Jubilee from ODM, is also poised to retain his seat. According to the poll, Lusaka enjoys a 52.2 per cent popularity compared to His closest competitor Wycliffe Wangamati of Ford-Kenya at 31.9 per cent.

Unlike with the gubernatorial race where majority of the incumbents will likely retain their seat, the Infotrack poll reveals that most current MPs will lose their seats.
