IEBC voter register filled with errors. The inaccuracies have surfaced after an audit was already done prompting allegations of chicanery.
Kenyans have taken to social media to condemn the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for rolling out a voter register with discrepancies ahead of the August elections.
The errors were discovered from yesterday when IEBC opened up the voters register for inspection by the public. The inspection is to be done online and also via the SMS short code 70000, where registered voters can SMS their ID or passport no’s and confirm their registration status.
Some complained that ID numbers of their deceased relatives were still showing they are registered voters while others complained that even incorrect numbers were giving back positive registration details.
IEBC on Tuesday released the final list of registered voters who will take part in the August 5th general elections and announced the final tally of voters is 19.6 million an increase of more than 5 million voters compared to the 2013 general election.
The Commission said it had expunged over 80,000 records of deceased persons from the register as recorded by audit firm KPMG.
Disgruntled Kenyans took to Twitter under the trending hashtag #IEBCFakeRegister to air their discontent.
