Hard pressed Kenyan taxpayers will no doubt be turning cartwheels of joy at learning that their donations to the Kenya Revenue Authority are being spent on good causes.
Official figures reveal that the Jubilee Party (JP) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) received, between them, Sh519,108,499 to fund their activities through the Political Parties Act, over three-quarters of the financial year 2020/2021.
In a notice released through the Kenya Gazette (Notice No. 6953 dated 25th May, 2021) under the Political Parties Act, it was reported that in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters of the Financial Year 2020/2021, the two parties had received a total of Sh519,108,499 (over half a billion Kenya Shillings) from the Political Parties Fund.
The JP received Sh353,856,423 and the ODM garnered a modest Sh165,252,076.
