Judicial Service Commission begins search for new Chief Justice. This comes after former CJ Willy Mutunga vacated the post.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) yesterday started interviewing the shortlisted candidates for the Chief Justice position, which fell vacant following Dr Willy Mutunga’s retirement two months ago.
Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Alnashir Visram, was the first candidate to be grilled even as a petitioner moved to court to block his qualification over a Ksh 14.2 million land case.
Justice MsaghaMbogholi will be interviewed today August 30, High Court Justice David Maraga, on Wednesday, August 31, Nzamba Kitonga, chair of the Committee of Experts on the Constitution Review on September 1, High Court judge, Lady Justice Roselyn Nambuye on 2nd September. Supreme Court Judge Dr. Smokin Wanjala will be the last candidate to face the panel on 3rd September.
JSC had shortlisted six candidates for the Chief Justice and 13 for the Deputy Chief Justice positions. The later will be interviewed from September 6.
The 18 candidates also shortlisted for judges of the Supreme Court will appear before JSC from September 29 to October 7.
The JSC is expected to submit a name of the most qualified candidate for the CJ and DCJ position to the president for appointment.
