Al-Shabaab terrorists raid beach hotel in Mogadishu. The story is still breaking but it is believed that 17 people have died.
At least 17 people are reported dead following an Al-Shabaab attack at a beach side hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia yesterday.
The terror group is reported to have used suicide bombers who rammed two vehicles packed with explosives at the Beach View Cafe on Lido beach, before gunmen stormed in and opened fire.
A second explosion hit the nearby Lido Seafood restaurant before security forces moved in to control the situation. At around 3am today, African Union troops and government forces said they had regained control of the hotel after a fierce gun battle.
Somali Government spokesman Abdisalam Aato condemned the attack said that all the attackers had been killed.
“This is a barbaric act and we condemn this act,” he said. “Al-Shabaab is trying to disrupt the peace and Somalis will not stand for it. We will not be intimidated.”
The attack comes just a week after Al-Shabaab raided a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) camp, killing at least 60 soldiers.
