Kenya’s mainstream and social media space took a break from the day to day news and updates on the COVID-19 pandemic as tributes to former journalist and author Professor Ken Walibora took center stage.

The family of Ken Walibora discovered his body at the Kenyatta National Hospital on Tuesday after he went missing on Friday.

Prof Ken Walibora, popularly, known for his “Siku Njema” title, was reportedly hit by a Double M matatu in Nairobi’s Landies road.

The driver, who had allegedly taken off after the accident was chased down and arrested and charged with “careless driving and causing grievous harm,” before he was released on a Sh 10,00 cash bail according to the Nairobi area police commander Philip Ndolo.

Ndolo however on Wednesday said that the driver would be charged afresh since the victim succumbed to his injuries.

“We are looking for the driver so as to press fresh charges against him now that his victim succumbed to injuries. He shall then be arraigned in court,” added Mr Ndolo.

Causing death through dangerous driving is a criminal offence that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years according  to the Kenya Traffic Act.

Siku Njema  and  Kidagaa Kimemwozea novels were used as a set books in Kenyan secondary schools.
