The  High Court on Monday stopped the dismissal of a Kenya Airways staff member who allegedly filmed the arrival of the controversial China Southern Airlines plane at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) last week with over 200 Chinese nationals aboard, in a clip that went viral on social media sparking a public uproar over the government’s failure to take precautions to protect citizens from coronavirus.

Gire Ali, a security officer at Kenya Airways, was slapped with a suspension letter on disciplinary grounds signed by the airline’s Human Resource Manager. He later moved to court to challenge the decision to suspend him for filming the arrival of the airline, which had before then suspended all flights from china to Kenya.

Ali is also sought to have court orders to restrain Anti-Terror police and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) from arresting, arraigning, charging and prosecuting him over alleged terrorism.

Justice Weldon Korir said the orders will remain in force pending the hearing and determination of Ali’s application.

The Chinese airline, which had announced resuming flights from China to Nairobi on 27th February, was forced to suspend the flights once again following the public uproar from Kenyans.
