Hundreds of people flock at Nyayo House in Nairobi as early as 4 am in order to beat the deadline for migration to the new generation e-passports.
The government has further extended the deadline for the migration of the e-passport to 2021.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, in a statement released on Monday, said the new extension is due to the fact that approximately 1.8 million Kenyans, especially those living in the diaspora, are yet to migrate to the new generation e-passports.
The initial deadline for phasing out the old passport had been set for August 31, 2019, it was extended to March 1, 2020.
Kenya has been keen on introducing the e-passport and had issued a deadline for August 31st, 2019, which had seen hundreds of people flock at Nyayo House in Nairobi as early as 4 am from early last year in order to beat the deadline, prompting the government to open up more passport processing centers in other counties.
